The One Truth Most Leaders Keep Quiet

 

While our lives and careers can often find themselves in predictable patterns–go to school, get a job, work hard, rise to the top–there’s one little secret that most leaders never like to talk about. It’s a reality that can make us feel vulnerable. But it shouldn’t.

What’s the secret? It’s this: we rose to our leadership positions because we were good at a certain skill, not because we were skilled at leading others. We were promoted because we personally created great results.

 

Are You Ready for an Aging Workforce?

Today, older workers continue to participate in the workforce in strong numbers for a number of reasons, including better overall health and the need to build or supplement their retirement income. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the number of workers between the ages of 55 and 64 is estimated to climb to 29.3 million by 2020 and make up almost 18% of the labor force. This increase in older workers emphasizes the need to understand the unique risks of this age group.

Organizations Don't Change Until People Do

 

Organizations decide they’re going to change all the time, especially during times like we’re experiencing today when recruiting is tough, engagement is a challenge, and retention is a top priority. It’s not unusual for an organization to say, “We need to change so we can get the best talent and crush the competition.” But organizational change doesn’t happen just because something goes offline, a kickoff meeting happened to start a project, an acknowledgement was made that change needs to happen, an email was sent to all interested parties, or a training session was held for employees.
